Lesson Learned:

Building allies in parliament and providing technical inputs whilst allowing them to drive the reform process, is a strategy that has worked well.

Lesson Learned:

Nine woman candidates trained by the project were elected in the 2013 parliamentary elections. The training sessions were an important first step, however sustained mentoring and support will be required to ensure the women elected can continue to promote the gender equality agenda.

Lesson Learned:

Gender related themes cover a huge range of issues from domestic violence to early marriage. While they may be linked pursuing each of them in-depth, would enhance the comprehensiveness of the project objectives and society-wide impact. The thematic coverage by the Women’s Parliament was too broad.

Lesson Learned:

Only 10 of those MPs who followed the advocacy seminars and expressed their support were recently re-elected into parliament, which gives additional reason for concern.
