Project: Mainstreaming the Sustainable Development Goals in the Arab Civil Society Agenda
Evaluation Date: December 2018
Report: [report link]
Lesson Learned:

For effective implementation of regional-level projects, it is imperative that the appropriate local partners and coordinating mechanisms are used. Organizations should consider selecting more than one partner organization for a country as one national partner may be ideal for some project activities but less so for others.

Theme: Interaction with government
Arab States   collaboration, coordination, partners
Project: Fostering Ethical Democracy and Advancing Micro Justice in India
Evaluation Date: September 2018

Lesson Learned:

Awareness of existing power dynamics with communities is important for effective implementation. When organizing community-based activities in which elected representatives and officials are present, one must be aware of existing power imbalances and mitigate these imbalances by facilitating activities in a way that doesn’t reinforce existing power structures.

Project: Strengthening Civil Society and Developing Independent Media in Africa
Evaluation Date: March 2013
Report: [report link]
Lesson Learned:

There was significant work done towards enhancing coordination among street papers in the production and sharing of content, through the editorial coordination work undertaken by the editor of the Zambian paper.

Project: Engaging Civil Society in a Democratic Election Process in Sudan, Bahrain, Tunisia and Jordan
Evaluation Date: March 2011

There was no evidence that the project sought to coordinate with other donor-led initiatives in the democracy field. Such coordination would have to be initiated by the grantee. In the current context, Arab countries are enjoying a surplus of offered democracy support aid for community activism.
